Savedra Dive Center

Savedra Dive Center is on Panagsama Beach in Moalboal, one of Cebu’s best-known dive towns. It is not a classic guaranteed shark centre like Malapascua, and that distinction matters. Moalboal means Sardine Run, walls, Pescador Island, courses and tech diving – with real, but less predictable, shark chances on top.

Shark diving

The most realistic shark encounters are around Pescador Island and Sumilon. Whitetip reef sharks are possible at Pescador, while Sumilon day trips offer better chances for whitetip and blacktip reef sharks. These are natural reef encounters, not staged shark dives.

There can also be surprises on the house reef or around the sardine school. Thresher sharks may appear in Moalboal, and whale sharks can also turn up, but both are far less predictable than at specialised sites. Savedra’s strength is the mix of Sardine Run, walls, boat dives and the real possibility of meeting a shark along the way.

Oslob context

The whale shark option via Oslob is a special case. It is well known, but it is linked to feeding and is therefore stored in the metadata as hand-feeding. Divers looking for natural whale shark encounters should consider other regions; divers choosing Savedra for Moalboal mainly get a strong Cebu dive package with occasional shark moments.
