Ticao Island Resort on Ticao Island in Masbate feels like an outpost for divers who want more than pretty reefs. The big name in the area is Manta Bowl: a current-swept seamount with cleaning stations, mantas, changing visibility and exactly the kind of blue-water tension that pelagic sites are known for.
Shark diving
For shark divers, Ticao is mainly interesting for whale sharks and pelagic thresher sharks. Whale sharks are stronger from roughly November to June, while thresher sharks are more often linked with July to October. Occasional hammerhead and tiger shark sightings add to the attraction, but none of these species is guaranteed.
Area and trips
Beyond Manta Bowl, the region has local reefs, North Ticao sites and calmer dives closer to the resort. That matters because not every day is suitable for the open big-animal site. In good conditions Manta Bowl is the magnet; in rougher weather or for easier profiles, reefs, check dives and night dives still make sense.
Conditions and skill level
Manta Bowl is not a relaxed house reef. Experience, comfort in current and a clear briefing matter more than at many classic reef dives. Divers coming specifically for whale sharks or threshers should plan several dive days and flexible expectations: Ticao can be excellent, but it remains a true wildlife and conditions destination.
