Mobula Dive Center

Mobula Dive Center is based in Muscat and combines PADI training, fun dives and Daymaniyat trips with a clear whale-shark season. The base suits travellers who want to combine diving with a realistic chance of a whale-shark encounter.

Whale sharks and diving

The strongest shark option at Mobula is the whale shark. In Oman, this is usually not a classic scuba shark dive, but more often whale-shark watching or snorkelling at the surface while the animals feed in plankton. With luck, the encounter can be close and impressive, but it depends strongly on season, visibility, wind and plankton.

The dives themselves focus mainly on the Daymaniyat Islands: coral, turtles, rays, fish schools and calm reef sites are the main experience. Divers who come for whale sharks should therefore see the dive programme as a strong framework, not as a promise of seeing whale sharks underwater on scuba.

Area and season

The main whale-shark window runs roughly from July to October. During this warm, plankton-rich phase, watching and snorkelling trips make the most sense. For relaxed diving conditions, the cooler months can be more comfortable, even if the whale-shark chance is then lower.

Mobula is therefore especially interesting for divers and snorkellers who want to experience Daymaniyat and deliberately look for whale sharks in the right season, without expecting a scuba guarantee.
