White Tip Divers is located on Anse Volbert beach in Côte d’Or, directly beside the Paradise Sun Hotel. The PADI dive center serves more than 20 sites around Praslin and the neighboring islands. Dives generally remain within a depth of about 20 meters, are guided and are planned as no-decompression dives.
Whitetip reef sharks and nurse sharks
The center notes that sharks may be encountered at selected sites, although larger animals can never be guaranteed. Whitetip reef sharks and tawny nurse sharks are regularly seen at nearby Booby Rock. In the Seychelles, references to nurse sharks on reef dives generally mean the tawny nurse shark.
Both species are year-round reef residents in the Seychelles. There is no short, reliable peak season comparable to that of whale sharks. More important factors are which dive site can be reached that day, the current, visibility and the guides’ familiarity with the animals’ resting places.
Daily planning on Praslin
The center selects dive sites at short notice according to weather and sea conditions. Alongside single dives, it offers packages, night dives and two-dive boat trips. More distant destinations may be omitted when winds or currents are strong.
The calmer transition periods often fall in April and May and in October and November, but diving takes place throughout the year. Travelers specifically interested in sharks should plan several diving days rather than rely on a single preselected trip.
