Porto Mari Dive Center sits directly on Playa Porto Mari near Sint Willibrordus. The centre combines an accessible house reef with guided shore dives, SSI courses and special boat trips. For divers interested in sharks, two offers matter most: the Eastpoint boat trip and the SSI Shark Ecology Specialty.
Shark diving
Porto Mari is not a classic shark-dive centre. Its own FAQ sets expectations clearly: sharks are rare on Curaçao, it can take many dives to see one, and if a shark appears it is usually a calm nurse shark. That restraint makes the profile credible.
The Eastpoint trip leads to a remote reef area reached by boat, with drift profiles and little coastal influence. Nurse sharks and Caribbean reef sharks are possible there, but not predictable. The Shark Ecology course adds species knowledge, behaviour, conservation topics and the calm attitude that helps if a shark really does appear.
Area and logistics
The Oostpunt trip runs with partner Dive In Curaçao and the Petra catamaran logistics. Depending on conditions, sites such as Guliaw, Black Rock, Punt Kanon, Smokey’s or Katie’s Paradise are selected. No fixed shark season is set; the better reading is beautiful remote reefs, an occasional shark chance and a clear plus for divers who prefer ecology over guarantee language.
