Mikomoto Divers is in Minamiizu-Machi at the southern end of the Izu Peninsula. The center runs trips to Mikomotojima, an open offshore site off Shizuoka, and suits experienced divers looking for drift dives, blue water and big fish.
Shark diving
The main shark dives are scuba drift dives with scalloped hammerheads. The strongest window is usually June to October. Dives take place near current edges and in blue water, where hammerheads and other big fish can pass. Mikomoto Divers expects a high level, including substantial dive experience and solid drift-diving basics. Whale sharks are possible in the open area, but not the planned target species.
Big fish off Mikomoto
The area is shaped by the Kuroshio: changing visibility, strong current, rock structure and constant movement in the water. Amberjack, barracuda, tuna and other pelagics can appear. Divers still building confidence in current should start with easier regional sites before putting Mikomoto on the plan.
