Rocket Frog Divers is a PADI 5-Star Instructor Development Centre, operating since 2011 and additionally certified by SDI and NAUI. The centre is known for its fleet of six dive-specific boats, including the “Pacific Express” with two 250 HP Yamaha engines, reaching dive sites like the Bat Islands in just 50 minutes. The crew consists of experienced dive instructors who speak multiple languages, including German, English, Spanish, and French, and focus on safety and customer satisfaction.
The offerings include:

- Dive excursions to the Bat Islands, Catalina Islands, and local reefs in the Gulf of Papagayo
- Snorkelling excursions for non-divers
- Equipment rental, including Nitrox and children’s gear
- Facilities such as a training pool, air-conditioned classroom, and free Wi-Fi
The dive sites in the region are known for their diversity, with visibility ranging from 5 to 30 metres and water temperatures fluctuating between 20 and 28 degrees Celsius. A 3mm wetsuit is recommended, as strong thermoclines can occur.
Diving with Sharks
A highlight at Rocket Frog Divers is shark diving, particularly at the Bat Islands (Islas Murciélagos), a protected marine reserve near Santa Rosa National Park. These islands are one of the few places in Costa Rica where divers can regularly encounter bull sharks, especially at the dive site “Big Scare.” The Bat Islands are suitable for advanced divers, as currents and waves can be challenging. In addition to bull sharks, the dive sites offer sightings of whitetip reef sharks, manta rays, and occasionally even whale sharks.
The dives are led by experienced divemasters like Nico or Matt, who are praised for their clear communication and safety focus. Customers report impressive encounters with large schools of fish, turtles, and moray eels alongside the sharks. Rocket Frog Divers regularly organises trips to the Bat Islands (March to December), and the fast boats make these remote dive sites accessible. One diver described the experience as “luxurious” and highlighted the professional care provided by the crew.
For those seeking adventure, Rocket Frog Divers offers a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating world of sharks in Costa Rica, supported by top-notch equipment and guides who make every experience unforgettable.
