Green Turtle

Discover the fascinating underwater world of the island of Santo Antão with the Green Turtle Diving Centre.

About the Dive Centre

The Green Turtle Diving Centre has been located on the island of Santo Antão since 2014 and was previously known as Blue Eden Dive Centre. The new name and logo were chosen to emphasise the importance of turtles to the Cape Verdean archipelago, as Santo Antão is one of the many islands where turtles nest.

Basic Diving Information

The waters around Santo Antão offer ideal conditions for divers: clear visibility of over 25 metres, water temperatures between 23°C and 28°C, and a rich marine biodiversity. Frequently sighted species include wahoo, skipjack tuna, common dolphin, bass species, moray eels, and various types of rays. Migratory species such as tuna, dolphins, sperm whales, orcas, and whales can also appear seasonally.

Turtle Encounters

A special highlight of the Green Turtle Diving Centre is the regular encounters with turtles. These majestic animals are not only a symbol of the Cape Verdean archipelago but also a fascinating experience for divers and snorkelers. The centre offers tours where guests have the opportunity to observe these animals in their natural habitat.

Shark Encounters While Diving

At the Green Turtle Diving Centre, divers have the opportunity to observe Atlantic nurse sharks throughout the year. Rare sightings have also included guitar sharks, blacktip sharks, smooth-hound sharks (Mustelus spp.), whale sharks (Rhincodon typus), and lemon sharks. However, these species are very rare and difficult to find, as they usually stay in open waters and do not regularly visit the usual dive sites of the day trips. Encounters with them are therefore considered a special highlight for experienced divers.
