Dive Cabo is a PADI dive center in Cabo San Lucas, just a few steps from the marina. The base covers the full range of the region: easy dives in Cabo San Lucas Marine Park, reef dives along the Corridor, advanced blue-water trips to Gordo Banks, day trips to Cabo Pulmo and seasonal whale shark safaris to La Paz.
Shark diving
For shark divers, the strongest mix is Gordo Banks, Cabo Pulmo and La Paz. The Gordo Banks trip is run through the sister shop East Cape Explorers and is aimed at experienced divers who are comfortable with free descents, blue water and depths of around 40 meters. The key species there are scalloped hammerheads and silky sharks.
The best hammerhead chances at Gordo Banks are roughly from late August to January. Silky sharks are not limited to one tight window in the region, but like all pelagic encounters they depend on weather, current and luck. Divers looking for bull sharks can use Dive Cabo’s day trip to Cabo Pulmo; spring into early summer is the most useful window for that.
Dive Cabo also works the Corridor at sites such as Chileno Bay and Gavilanes, where whitetip reef sharks can occasionally be seen resting among rocks and coral. Whale sharks are not typical Cabo San Lucas scuba sightings, but Dive Cabo offers the seasonal snorkeling safari to La Paz, usually from November to April.
Region and trips
The marine park in front of Cabo San Lucas is the base’s relaxed home area. Sites are very close to the marina and offer walls, sandfalls, sea lions, rays and plenty of reef fish, with options for beginners, certified divers and courses depending on the site. The Corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo adds shallower reefs, calmer bays and the occasional seasonal big-animal surprise.
Gordo Banks is a different kind of dive: offshore, deep, open and best for confident divers. Dive Cabo requires a prior local check dive, good buoyancy, recent dive experience and comfort in open water. Cabo Pulmo and La Paz are long day trips, but they give access to two of the strongest big-animal areas in southern Baja California.
Practical notes
The shop is based at Hotel Tesoro in Cabo San Lucas and offers guided trips, PADI courses, Discover Scuba Diving and multi-day packages. Nitrox is available for Nitrox-certified divers. Anyone travelling specifically for sharks should not build the whole trip around one species: Gordo Banks, Cabo Pulmo and La Paz are strong options, but sightings remain real wildlife encounters.
