In the depths of the Red Sea off the Egyptian resort town of Marsa Alam, a serious shark attack occurred. According to Egypt's Ministry of Environment, the two victims were outside the designated swimming area when they were attacked. A 48-year-old tourist from Rome lost his life, while a 69-year-old man was taken to Port Ghalib hospital with serious injuries.

Investigations and precautionary measures

The Ministry of Environment immediately set up an emergency committee to investigate the incident. The affected coastal area was closed for at least two days to ensure the safety of other tourists. Similar incidents have occurred along Egypt’s coastline in the past, most recently in Hurghada, where beaches were also closed following a shark attack.
