The pregnant wife of Italian basketball professional Danilo Gallinari, Eleonora Boi, was injured in a suspected shark attack in Puerto Rico. According to the environmental and nature protection authority of the U.S. territory on Thursday, the 39-year-old sustained an open wound on her thigh while swimming. The injuries were treated immediately at the hospital – according to official reports, Boi is in stable condition.
For security reasons, her identity was not initially disclosed. It was only later that Captain Ruben Moyeno of the Carolina City Police confirmed to the press that the injured woman is the wife of Danilo Gallinari – and that she is pregnant.
Gallinari in Puerto Rico playing for Vaqueros de Bayamón
The 36-year-old former NBA player Gallinari is currently under contract with Vaqueros de Bayamón and is playing with the team in the final series of the Puerto Rican BSN league. The first game against the Leones de Ponce is scheduled for Sunday at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez.
Despite the trauma surrounding his family, Gallinari plans to continue his career in the national jersey. He was recently nominated for the Italian squad for EuroBasket 2025 and intends to join the team’s training camp under head coach Gianmarco Pozzecco after the BSN finals.
Italy plays in preliminary Group C in Limassol (Cyprus) against Greece, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, and the host country. The top four teams qualify for the knockout round, which will be held in September in Riga (Latvia).
