In Gansbaai, on the south coast of South Africa, White Shark Projects has made a name for itself since its founding as a leading organization in the protection and research of the great white shark. The project uniquely combines science, conservation, and ecotourism.
Research and education
The team is dedicated to studying the behavior and habitats of great white sharks. With data from tagging, sightings, and scientific analyses, they help to better understand this endangered species. At the same time, they place strong emphasis on environmental education to raise awareness about protecting marine ecosystems – both among tourists and within local communities.
Cage diving with great white sharks
In addition to research, White Shark Projects also offers cage diving. Visitors have the chance to experience the great white in its natural environment – safely from within a diving cage. This experience is meant not only to provide excitement, but above all to strengthen fascination and respect for the animals. Part of the revenue from these tours goes back into conservation and education projects.
A contribution to ocean conservation
Through its work, the organization shows that sustainable tourism and species protection can go hand in hand. White Shark Projects is thus an important ambassador for the significance of the great white shark in the marine ecosystem.
