Discover the fascinating underwater world of Santo Antão Island with the Green Turtle Diving Center.
About the dive center
The Green Turtle Diving Center has been located on Santo Antão Island since 2014 and was previously known as the Blue Eden Dive Center. The new name and logo were chosen to highlight the importance of turtles for the Cape Verdean archipelago, as Santo Antão is one of the many islands where turtles nest.
Basic Information About Diving
The waters around Santo Antão offer ideal conditions for divers: clear visibility of over 25 meters, water temperatures between 23 °C and 28 °C, and rich marine biodiversity. Commonly spotted species include wahoo, skipjack tuna, common dolphins, various types of bass, moray eels, and different species of rays. Migratory species such as tuna, dolphins, sperm whales, orcas, and other whales can also appear seasonally.
Encounters With Turtles
A special highlight of the Green Turtle Diving Center is the regular encounters with turtles. These majestic animals are not only a symbol of the Cape Verdean archipelago but also a fascinating experience for divers and snorkelers. The center offers tours where guests have the opportunity to observe these animals in their natural habitat.
Shark Encounters While Diving
At the Green Turtle Diving Center, divers have the opportunity to observe Atlantic Nurse Sharks all year round. Rare sightings have also included Guitar Sharks, Blacktip Sharks, Smoothhound Sharks (Mustelus spp.), Whale Sharks (Rhincodon typus), and Lemon Sharks. However, these species are very rare and difficult to find, as they usually inhabit open waters and do not regularly visit the typical dive sites of day trips. Encounters with them are therefore considered a special highlight for experienced divers.
