Fluid Tahiti, officially “Fluid Plongée Tahiti”, is a dive centre located in Marina Taina, Punaauia, on Tahiti (French Polynesia). It was founded in 2002 by Yannis St Pe and has since established itself as a renowned provider. The centre describes itself as a “friendly dive centre where time is taken to look after guests”. The experienced team places great emphasis on respectful interaction with the underwater world.
Offer for Divers
Fluid Tahiti offers diving excursions in both the lagoon and oceanic reefs. At around fifteen different dive sites, divers can discover a rich underwater world with corals, wrecks, caves, and a variety of marine life. Some sites allow deep dives down to about 50 metres to admire colourful gorgonians and coral roses. During each trip, divers are provided with light snacks and refreshments. The boats are moored right next to the dive shop at the pier; divers can comfortably gear up and board directly.
For beginners, the centre organises supervised introductory dives. Novices can make their first “dive bubbles” here under safe conditions. The Discover Scuba Diving programme includes two dives; the first dive is always accompanied by an instructor (maximum of two students). Those who wish to delve deeper can take international SSI training courses. All necessary rental equipment is available – as the centre emphasises, you just need to “grab your gear and jump on board”.
Other Special Offers
In addition to diving, Fluid Tahiti also organises other marine activities. Between August and November (whale season), three-hour whale-watching tours are on the programme, where experienced guides share plenty of interesting facts about humpback whales. Often, you can get very close to the whales, and with a bit of luck, even swim with them. Outside the whale season, a three-hour snorkelling tour offers the chance to see coral gardens, turtles, and wrecks – occasionally, sharks, rays, or dolphins are spotted. In the evening, you can enjoy the colourful Tahitian sunset on a roughly 90-minute boat trip. A homemade cocktail is included; afterwards, an Italian-local dinner at the restaurant “La Casa Bianca” follows, with a taxi service back to the hotel included.
The multilingual team at Fluid Tahiti speaks French, English, and German in addition to other languages. Overall, the centre places great emphasis on personal service and safety – the trained dive instructors ensure a smooth and safe experience in every situation.
Shark Diving with Fluid Tahiti
Shark diving is a special highlight at Fluid Tahiti. Around ten different shark species are regularly found in the waters off Tahiti. During guided full-day dives (three dives), specific shark grounds are targeted. Here, you often encounter grey reef sharks, blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, lemon sharks, and nurse sharks – occasionally, even a tiger shark. Even on snorkelling excursions, divers might spot sharks with a bit of luck. The dive sites “La Source” (for turtles) and “La Vallée Blanche” (for sharks) are particularly well-known and productive.
Well-equipped boats are available for shark encounters. For example, the catamaran dive boat “Zebubbles” (20 people) can be used for special shark excursions, such as a tiger shark day dive. Fluid Tahiti even offers a private programme called “Tahiti Shark Dive Adventure” – a full-day excursion for up to 5 divers. Together with the centre’s certified, experienced dive instructors, this ensures the highest level of safety and professionalism. The sharks are not shown in cages but are observed freely in their natural habitat – always under professional guidance and with the greatest respect for the animals.
